I cannot say that I disagree that raiding improves certain aspects of a person outside or inside of a game. I can say, however, that playing MMORPGs, in general, has improved me in several ways. Mainly in not being socially awkward, and it taught me a lot of patience... although, it can also be argued that I've always been patient. :)

It saddens me that there are still some who do not embrace the concept of improvement both inside and outside of the game, and they settle for mediocrity. I find myself doing this outside of the game at times, but at the same time I've been poking at myself to change this as well.

Settling is bad, and this is why my ten is so important to me as a person, a player, and a raid leader. It makes me beyond happy when I know that I have shaped a group through friendship and companionship that has the capacity and patience to work together, have fun, and defeat formerly-impossible odds. Our ten was made when killing the Lich King was a petty dream in the world of warcraft, but then the day came... and after five hours of whiping and altering small bits of strategy, he died. Our kingslayer spam was seen throughout the guild chats, and we were the first in Brotherhood of Oblivion and Stands in Bad to get it. The pride was HUGE, although we kept the attitude of "this is only the beginning" and progressed to downing hardmodes.

I admit that our progression has seemed to slow, because of life and the universe. (Damn you, universe!) But I look forward to picking up the pieces and getting Bane while we still can. I have a new petty fantasy to pursue.

Now, I only need to find a skilled Resto Shaman/Disc Priest/Resto Druid.... *ponders*

On my original server during vanilla (yes, a very long time ago) there use to be wars:

Southshore is where most epic battles would be fought. Sometimes 2 40people raids versus 2 40people raids. Sometimes the battles would push into Tauren Mill and then someone would decide to kill the npc and then the whole raid would get dishonorable kills.

Alterac Valley games would stretch for 10+ hours you could go to sleep log back on and the same game is taking place. This was also in vanilla before cross server queues.

My feeling is that over time the rewards and motivation to do world pvp as a whole has changed. Before blue pvp gear was acceptable to join a raid for UBRS (remember when it was 10m?), AQ20 and ZG. Now with the instant honor (do the Wintergasp quests) and emblem farming random heroics there is not much incentive.

Serpent up all the time, I apply viper if I'm having mana issues before I swap back. If I was 100% on lady I wouldn't change it but would possibly viper another target if the issues were that bad.

Saying that I've just picked up a point in rapid recuperation so I'd potentially be getting more mana back per fight from killing adds and my RFs.

I also wouldn't forget the gain from glyph of steady shot.

it occurs to me that there's a better question in "do we gain effective dps in Phase 1 by spending a GCD to apply Serpent Sting for the seven seconds while Viper is down but on cooldown?", but this occurs to me at freaking FOUR AM, so I'll try to look into that tomorrow.

Oh god why am I still awake.

I think also a certain amount of it is responsibility.

As a healer especially if you have a lapse in concentration its often a wipe. As a tank if you miss picking up an add or dont pop a cooldown its often a wipe. Plus because there's a fewer number of you - the burden comes down on fewer heads. If nobody's dpsing snobolds - hey theres 6/18 other people doing the same role and because blizzard generally set normal modes laughably easy its never such a massive deal.

I'm not justifying them claiming they are the golden children of wow but as a Hunter as well who's played 3tanks and 2 healers in at least basic raid content I personally feel I sometimes have an easier time.

Our guild doesn't prio the tanks or healers, its a rather outdated concept I feel because if theres a specific tank set it will generally be plate items and not always tier set (eg anub HM). In vanilla or tbc it made sense because there were so few avenues of gearing but now everyone and their dog is drowning in purple items thanks to 10man versions and badge gear so I don't think theres the case.

@Kotakh: not necessarily necessary, no, but it sure is spiffy. Good for questing, as I've decided to only do dungeons - for now - with healers I'm in a group with before queuing, and good for farming.

And once I hit 80, I plan to drop mining for Alchemy, so I'm gonna be doing a lot of farming.

I dunno, I have 20k (after buying Epic Flying on my Shaman sometime in the past month, when I was also around 20k, so I recouped the cost in ~month) - and I don't know what else to spend it on, except eventually, I guess, getting around to getting a Mechanohog.

@Nebet: Yes. Time is good, and cost effective. Plus it lets me toss on Crusader Aura and lead 99% of people on a merry chase around Northrend :D

Won't the LFD system teleport you to any dungeon you successfully queue for, heroic or not?
